Meditation 1, graphite on paper, 50 x 65 cm, 2024.

In this piece, I explore my relationship with graphite, movement, and paper through the automatic drawing process, allowing my hand to follow a rhythm that emerges from the body rather than from intellectual thought. The act of drawing becomes a trance-like state—an entrainment between my physical self, mood, and the materials; the motion of the graphite on paper synchronizes with my breathing, heartbeat, and subconscious impulses. This flow creates an environment within the drawing, a space that feels at once meditative and alive, where each mark follows naturally from the last, creating a web of interconnected lines and forms that breathe together.

Visual Echo, Work in progress for my current project: Drawing the Beat: Exploring Music, Trance, and Consciousness through Embodied Creation

Graphite on drawing paper, 50 x 65 centimeters, 2024.

I explore the intersection of music, movement, and visual art through the creation of automatic drawings. Rooted in Surrealist practices, automatic drawing is a form of stream-of-consciousness expression where the hand moves freely on the page without premeditation. The purpose of my project is to investigate how sound, rhythm, and trance influence both the artistic process and the perception of consciousness. The drawings that emerge are a visual representation of my internal, subconscious responses to music, as well as the trance- like states induced by the experience; they are intrinsically the visceral art of “Becoming” under an emotional aural influence. The drawing I created emerged intuitively, responding to music performed or curated by close friends of mine. It is an embodiment of my personal experience with music as a transformative force—one that took me beyond the familiar boundaries of self, time, and space. The process became an experiment in surrender; surrendering to the rhythms, tones, energies, and feelings of a musically saturated environment.
